Making Friends With The Floor

Wednesdays 4-5:45 PM

May 6-20

St. Luke’s Church 800 W. 36th Street

Class Description

This open levels class series explores how we can move with more ease, fluidity, and find joy while moving on the floor.  Together we will learn about our body’s intelligence as we:

  • Get up & down, roll, pivot, and slide on the floor

  • Build felt sense awareness and trust in our moving bodies, as solo movers and with partners using the support of Contact Improvisation-informed touch

  • Enliven perception by playing with simple movement patterns and improvisational structures

Each class will begin with a guided somatic warm up, a brief anatomy discussion, followed by different movement invitations.  Classes will include solo, partnered, and group movement exploration that might include invitation for physical contact between participants.  This class is open to all levels of experience and seeks to engage a sense of curiosity and play.

Where clothing that you feel comfortable moving in and being on the floor with.  I suggest long stretchy pants such as sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt.  If you knee pads are a part of your movement practice (for example in Contact Improvisation), feel free to bring them.

For educational purposes, parts of this class will be recorded. No footage will be shared publicly. It will only be used by myself. If there are participants who are not comfortable with this, we will work something out.
